That Awkward Moment Review

Last Friday my sister and I went to the movies, excited to see That Awkward Moment. I had seen so many of the commercials like the "Getting Horizontal" promo, that I was ready for a laugh-out-loud comedy. Much to my surprise, the movie wasn't the slapstick comedy I was expecting. At first, I was upset that I paid $8 for a few laughs, but I realized that there is so much more to this movie than crazy situations and sexual innuendos.

This movie delved into the true feelings of a relationship. The excitement and infatuation of the "honeymoon" phase, the awkward and fragile middle phase, and the bittersweet ending. Underneath the jokes and sex, there was the universal truth that being in a relationship means being there for the other person, and if you can't do that, then you have nothing but the fleeting fantasy of  a relationship. Throughout the movie, the main characters were getting in and out of romantic relationships, but this also was true for their friendships. The story line appeared trite on the surface, but was very thought-provoking and deep when scrutinized.

I think you will enjoy it if you are looking for a refreshing take on relationships. It is funny, it is sad, and it is happy, but you will only find it intriguing if you keep an open mind to it. If you are looking for a purely funny movie, it isn't for you. However, it is definitely worth seeing and I highly recommend it.

Here's the trailer in case you haven't seen it.
